Service Facility Concerns

You know that things are getting rocky. Pretty much every time you bop over to the repair service center, you're leery. You're all too willing to imagine that the car mechanic inspecting your car for its yearly car inspection . You can't entirely dismiss the feeling that you're shelling out for more than what you should. You think that vehicle repair centers are blackholes where your pockets run dry of every dime and nickel you own and that they're there to swindle you at almost every turn.

With numerous hard-to-trust service facilities showing up from the woodwork, it's not very difficult to consider why most auto owners feel this way. Car owners may have plenty of choices to pick out from nowadays but only a very select few are wise choices. Sincere, dependable, and reputable auto maintenance establishments shoulnd't feel like searching for a needle in a haystack when you look for one. Which is why it's sad because they are.. It doesn't make things easy to swallow that the ones we often are exposed to give us more reason to distrust rather than believe in the people who handle our cars.

Ever taken your car for a maintenance inspection and ended up emptying out your pockets of a few thousand dollars for a component that, soon after, it turns out you don't you don't even have a use for?? Been badgered by beady-eyed vehicle repair personnel telling you to swap this part or that when all your ride needed was a new brake pad and not brake drums or new tires?

It's hard to count on repair shop car mechanic when you can't be sure if they're pulling your leg or what. One way to gauge their reliability is to compare prices with other auto repair shops. If the budget range they tell you is too pricey, that's a likely cue. It could mean they're making you pay higher than you should. Another is to ask your friends for tips. Or do your research. Search the forums, the sites, the customer service critiques. Research on the people you'd be handling your keys to. Or, if all else fails, listen to your instincts. If you feel there's something not-quite-right with the way the car keeps giving you names of parts you have to change, chances are you're getting taken in. Just get out of there before you waste your dimes and nickels on parts you don't want nor need.

Hey repair shops I know I have a crappy car but don't take me for a ride!

OK here's the story. I'm not really sure if anyone else drives a crusty old car, but I do. A 1997 Honda Civic to be exact. Usually not a big problem but my beloved Civic does get me nightmares sometimes.


Recently I have had two bouts of repairs that had to be done. Now I consider myself at least semi-mechanically inclined, but my knowledge about cars is limited. I know the basics and can normally understand most things if they are explained about my car. Whenever I go into the repair shop, I feel like one of those bad dreams I used to have. You know the one, like you registered for a class in college and forgot to drop it, and now you have to go take the final. You walk in and start to sweat, feeling like everyone knows you don't belong there.

That's how I feel in the garage. I will just go ahead and admit it, I don't know that much about auto repair. I always feel like the mechanic is onto me. Like he and his buddies got together and are trying to see how far they can push it. I feel like a victim when he asks the mechanic how much his repairs will be and the mechanic replies how much you got while swinging his wrench. Can't someone create a website that tells you if you are getting rooked on your repairs or not. I need this. If anyone who reads this(which I think is no one) has auto knowledge, then I need you to be my phone-a-friend lifeline. Every time my car makes a funny noise my palms start to sweat. They sweat even more when I realize that I have to go have this fixed at my friendly neighborhood auto "care" shop.

I can't go on living like this.
